Apple, Onion, and Gruyere Pizza

-->
The apple fun continues. I’ve been eating apples daily, but whenever I go apple picking I love to try all new ways of using apples. Tonight I made an Apple Onion Gruyere Pizza.  I thought it sounded like a good combo. Cheese and apples have this weird way of being a good match.

Here’s my recipe:

Apple,  Onion, and Gruyere Pizza

Ingredients:
- pizza dough
- 1 garlic clove, finely chopped
- 1 onion, chopped
- 1 apple sliced thin (I used a grannysmith)
- 1 cup gruyere cheese shredded
- salt and pepper to taste
- olive oil for cooking onion

Directions:
1. If you want to make a homemade dough, please check out my recipe here. If not take your store bought dough out of the refrigerator.
2. Preheat over to 425 degrees. If you have a pizza stone, put it in the oven to preheat it as well
3. Sauté garlic and onion in olive oil until onion is tender.
4. Stretch dough out and place on preheated stone
5. Layer on apple slices, onion, and cheese then top off with some salt and pepper
6. Cook for 15 minutes
7. Enjoy!

I was quite pleased with this pizza and highly recommend you trying it!

Cauliflower Pizza Crust

So I am by no means on some kind of low-carb diet, but I saw a recipe using Cauliflower to make a pizza crust and was really intrigued to try. I love veggies and finding new ways to use them. (And tomorrow I will make a normal full carbs pizza! And maybe one the next day too!!)

Here’s the recipe:

Cauliflower Pizza Crust
Ingredient:

- 1/2 head of cauliflower (or 2+ cups shredded cauliflower)
- 1 large egg
- 1 cup finely shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon dried minced garlic (or fresh garlic)
- 1/2 teaspoon salt

Directions:

1. Shred the cauliflower using a food processor.
2. Place the cauliflower crumbles in a large bowl and microwave them for 8 minutes.
3. Let the cauliflower cool before added other ingredients.
4. Combine cauliflower crumbles with the remaining ingredients.
5. Spray or grease a cookie sheet or pizza pan. I used a cookie sheet instead of my trusty pizza stone before the dough seemed a little sticky and I feared it would totally get stuck and not come off the stone easily.
6. Plop the ball of ingredients onto the pan and pat it down forming it into a pizza shape.
7. Bake for 15 minutes or until golden.
8. Remove the crust from the oven.
9. Then you can add whatever pizza topping you would like and bake for another 5 minutes.
I did just standard sauce and cheese because I wanted to get a good taste of the crust. It was delicious! The cheese, garlic, and oregano really give it a kick. I’m not used to crust have such a pop of flavor. I do have to warn. This is a pizza you must eat with a fork. It didn’t get quite crispy enough to pick up. It is a little floppy, but it taste great!

Give it a try!

Inspiration came from here.

Pizza, Pizza, and More Pizza

I can't get enough of making pizza. I'm a machine. That stone was one good investment!

Cream sauce, Baby Spinach, Fresh Tomato Slices

 Red peppers and Onions

Spinach, Mozz and Provolone Mix

Ok this one looks ridic! Kind of like a mountain range. It was a dough purchased from Hannaford and for whatever it wanted to rise and keep on rising. It stood like 2.5" tall!

Artichoke's Pizza. Believe the hype

I have been meaning to try a slice of Artichoke Pizza forever. Located down near Union Square, this pizza is known for being a late night hot spot. It is not your average $1 slice of NY pizza you buy off the street. This is a more gourmet classy kind of slice. It is probably the most decadent slice of pizza I've ever had. Not quite as thick as Chicago Deep Dish, but definitely in competition with them for richness

I visited their Dine-in location in Chelsea. I actually can't imagine eating this off the street. I had to eat it with a fork and knife because of the ooey gooey sauce. On the street I feel like things would get real messy.

I requested to go here for my birthday we bought a whole pie, which was MASSIVE. I don't think we knew what we were getting ourselves into. Because of the richness it is quite filling, so we had leftover not that I'm complaining!

The pizza combines artichoke hearts, spinach, cream sauce and cheeses. Words can't even express how amazing this pizza is. Believe the hype. It is out of this world.

I love the simplicity of their place too. They sell only a handful of kind of pie, a handful of appetizers, and drinks. No need for more!

Get yourself a slice!!!! You won't be disappointed!
